Where the Art of Koi Meets the
Serenity of Japanese Design
We’re Rajat and Lisa Agarwal — passionate koi enthusiasts and proud Austin residents since 1999. Our journey with koi began over 20 years ago from a love for their gentle nature and stunning variations of colors and styles. What started as a hobby has grown into a lifelong pursuit of excellence in koi care and Japanese garden design.

Through years of hands-on experience (and more than a few lessons learned — see Our Learnings), we've developed a deep understanding of koi varieties, quality, and pondkeeping. We’ve built strong relationships with reputable breeders, allowing us to offer a diverse, ever-changing selection of healthy, high-quality koi at a range of price points.

At ATX Koi, our mission is to offer healthy, well-sourced koi and to provide outstanding customer service built on transparency about the koi's lineage and condition, expert knowledge, thoughtful care, and a genuine love for the art. We're proud to showcase an evolving inventory of exquisite Japanese and Domestic koi, including Mujimono (plain), Hikarimono (metallic), Wagoi (scaled), Doitsu (scaleless), Ginrin/Kinrin (sparkling scales), Kawarigoi (non-metallic), and Hirenaga (butterfly/long-fin) varieties.
Beyond the fish, our love for Japanese garden design has shaped our home and business. We’ve built multiple koi ponds over the years, including our current centerpiece: a 16,000-gallon in-ground pond featuring a dramatic 10-foot-wide, 8-foot-tall waterfall inspired by Japan’s Manai Falls, a flowing river-like stream, an intake bay and planted bog system, and our own serene “Heiwana Shima” — Peaceful Island. Our property also features a traditional Zen Rock Garden (Karesansui), meticulously crafted to embody the serenity of Japanese aesthetics.
